Talk: Living and Dying in Iron Age Caithness [Inverness] ...

11 October 2019

Starts: 19:30
Ends: 21:00

Living and Dying in Iron Age Caithness

Highland Archaeology Festival Keynote Talk.

Over a hundred years ago Joseph Anderson published notes on various investigations of Caithness roundhouses by a suite of antiquarians. The sites (all classed as brochs) included Dunbeath, Yarhouse, Keiss Harbour, Keiss Road, Whitegate, Nybster and Everley. This lecture by Andy Heald presents the findings of recent work at some of these sites, undertaken as part of various initiatives over the last two decades by a range of individuals, groups and communities.

The lecture by Andy Heald will show the value of returning to antiquarian investigations and present new insight into life and death in Caithness from the Late Bronze Age through to the Viking period. The opportunity will also be taken to tie the recent findings into current research into the Atlantic Scottish Iron Age.

Venue: Highland Council Chamber, Glenurquhart Road, Inverness. Parking permit available at door. No need to book. Wheelchair accessible. Children with adults welcome. Open to all.

Organised by Highland Council. Phone 077888 35466
